Trekking to mahoma loop in the Rwenzori mountains is another enjoying journey through the montane forests, bamboo forests and the heather zone where to sight birds like the Rwenzori batis, white browed robin chat, Rwenzori turaco, ross’s turaco, mountain buzzards, ring necked dove and many more birds. Mahoma loop trail takes you to the mahoma lake one of the deepest lakes in the Rwenzori mountains.
The Rwenzori mountains are home to a range of wildlife including the rare mountain elephants, chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkey , Rwenzori duikers and the rock hyrax.
The bukurungu wilderness camping trail is a pristine trek that has camping grounds and huts before joining the central circuit trail. Bukurungu trail is for trekkers who wants to trek the Rwenzori off the beaten path while they immerse in the biodiversity of the mountains.

Camping is done in designated areas and restricted inorder to protect the environment and trekkers should make sure that they have appropriate trekking equipment and clothing such as rain boots, gloves, hiking boots, sleeping bags, helmets, rain gear and warm layers.
Before you start trekking or camping in the Rwenzori mountains, the tour operator must provide a trekking permit from the Uganda wildlife authorities. It is mandatory to hire a local guide and a game ranger for your safety and to help you navigate the challenging terrain and it is not recommended to hike alone in the Rwenzori mountains.
