The cost of climbing Rwenzori Mountains in Rwenzori Mountains National Park depends on the group size, number of days to hike as well as staying in the Rwenzori mountains.

The cost of hiking the Rwenzori mountains sometimes depends on the trail used, number of days and the peaks you are ready to climb.

Any hiker can trek through any of the three trekking Routes, the central circuit Trail, the Bukurungu wilderness trail and the kilembe trail

The Rwenzori mountains hikes/treks range starting from 1 day to 12 days depending on the interest of hikers. Rwenzori mountains has several historical peaks on different mountain ranges that lead to climbing for more days. Some of the mountain ranges to climb are mount stanley, mount speke, mount baker, mount Luigi di savoia, mount Emin and mount Gessi.

Currency used to pay and methods of payment for Rwenzori mountains hiking cost

The currency recommended when paying is the $USD, EURO and shillings for Ugandan citizens. Methods for payments can be via online payments, visa card payments and cash.

The Rwenzori mountains national park entrance fees are paid per day to Uganda Wildlife Authority, USD35 for Foreign Non-Residents, USD25 for Foreign Residents, USD20 for Rest of Africa and UGX 15,000  for East African Residents.

Central circuit trail.

The Rwenzori mountains hiking cost for hiking/trekking through the central circuit trail and depending on the number of days and the peak to be climbed, the package costs includes park entrance fees, accomodations in the mountain huts, meals for all the days while in the mountains, government taxes/VAT, wages for guides, chefs, porters and fuel for the vehicle for all your transportation. If the client is not having climbing equipment, the equipment can be hired at our offices.

The climbing/trekking equipments are the crampons, trekking poles, ice axe, harness, sleeping bags, hiking shoes, ascenders, gaiters, rubber boots, headlamps, jackets and many others that you need especially for the summit.

The climbing equipment are the same for all the three trails except the tents for camping in bukurungu trail for the first 3 camps before joining the central circuit trail. Remember the Bukurungu wilderness camping trail and is the best to test camping in the Rwenzori mountains.

Hikers can also book for a mahoma loop nature trail where you camp and spend 2 nights and 3 days exploring the vegetation, mahoma lake and rivers in the lower altitudes below 3000m.

Does climbing Rwenzori mountains national park require a permit?

Rwenzori hiking does not require a hiking permit, or paper work, but it is recommended to pay early payments prior to the day when your hiking starts. For one to be allowed to hike/trek through the Rwenzori mountains, payments are supposed to be made at our head office of Bujuku Eco Tours and Travel ltd for both trails once booked through our company.

However the central circuit trail is managed by Rwenzori mountaineering services, the kilembe trail is a private trail managed by Rwenzori trekking services and for Bukurungu Trail/Route is managed by Bujuku Eco Tours and Travel ltd.
