The 10 days 4 peaks Kilembe Trail takes you through the various vegetation zones , unique landscapes and sceneries. This adventure offers you to sight flora and fauna of the Rwenzori mountains making it one of the most best treks in the world. The 10 days Rwenzori trekking requires Resilience and much fitness because of the Rwenzori terrain.

Summary of the 10 days itinerary for 4 peaks.

Day 1. From the basecamp kilembe To sine hut 2,596 meters.

Day 2. Sine hut to Mutinda camp 3,588 meters.

Day 3. Mutinda camp To Bugata camp 4,062 meters.

Day 4. Bugata camp To Hunwicks camp 3,974 meters

Day 5. Hunwicks camp To Hike mount Baker 4,842m back To Hunwicks camp.

Day 6. Hunwicks camp To Margherita camp 4,485 meters.

Day 7. Margherita camp 4,485m To summit margherita peak 5,109m back to margherita camp.

Day 8. Margherita camp To summit mount speke 4,890m and back to Hunwicks camp.

Day 9. Hunwicks camp To summit Weismann’s peak 4,620m on mount Luigi di Savoia and down to Kiharo camp 3,430 meters.

Day 10. Kiharo camp and descend down to the basecamp

Day by day itinerary

Day 1. From the basecamp kilembe To sine hut 2,596 meters.

After your night at your booked hotel in Kasese town, our driver guide will drive you to the basecamp in kilembe where you will check the equipment and meeting your guides , chef and porters.

Start from the basecamp kilembe  at 1,450 meters and pass through the community until you reach the park and join a hike through the montane rain forest and  start walking up the valley through the forest trees.  This is a steady climb with multitudes of birds and a chance of seeing blue monkeys jumping off through the forest. On a lucky day you may see troupes of 15 to 20 black and white Colobus monkeys as they swing through the tree tops. There are rare sightings of the L’Hoest monkey  and the chimpanzee  but you may hear  the chimpanzee from a distance.  There is a wide variety of plant species from forest trees to bamboo trees, low shrubs, flowers, fungi, and with many moss and lichen hanging from the trees . Enock’s Falls are just 200 meters from Sine Hut and offer a good sightseeing of splashing water falls. At sine camp, the huts are set between tall forest trees on a narrow ridge where you  enjoy the beauty of the Afro montane forest.  Overnight at sine hut 2,596 m.  Taking 9.5 km

Day 2. Sine camp To Mutinda camp 3,588 meters

After breakfast early in the morning, you start by entering a bamboo zone which is a steep climb with many high steps . at this section, during the rainy season it is slippery and muddy. However,  the forest is beautiful as you climb 551 metres altitude and a distance of 1.8km to Kalalama Camp at 3,147 meters which is in the Heather Zone where you can take a rest and a quick cup of tea or coffee before heading on to Mutinda Camp. The trail takes you through a ridge  then drops down the side of the valley before climbing again, then cross several small streams and pass close to the moss covered waterfalls.  then climb steadily along the side of a beautiful mossy river which tumbles down over the rocks under the Giant Heather trees whose trunks are covered in green moss with old man beards (Usnea lichens) hanging from the branches. The trail twists and turns as you climb up the deep valley, which has an enormous variety of plants and flowers. This valley is unique with many Giant Heather trees creating a beautiful atmosphere often shrouded in mist.

In the afternoon, you may wish to climb up to the top of the Mutinda Lookout that takes 1-2 hours . The views are amazing as you stand on moss covered rocks at 3,925 meters with views across the Rwenzori Mountains and down to Kasese town and Lake George.

Overnight at mutanda camp 3588 m. taking 6.1km

Day 3. Mutinda camp To Bugata camp 4,062 meters.

Early in the morning after breakfast, you start with a boggy section especially during the rainy season, you step on tussocks to another trying to avoid sinking in the mud then cross the mutinda valley through the everlasting flowers and giant lobelias then climb a steep ascend to Namusangi valley with waterfalls, at this point you view the mutinda peak and the namusangi valley is seen very wide as you start a relative climb to Bugata camp. Overnight at Bugata camp. Taking 8.6 km

Day 4. Bugata camp To Hunwick camp 3,974 meters

After breakfast in the morning, you pass at the ridge then descend slightly before starting an ascend to Bamwanjara pass at 4,450 meters where there is a resting hut incase of bad weather. At this point you will have  views of the three main peaks. The trail passes down the valley and around the edge of some bogs and thick  vegetation, giant groundsel and lobelia.  At this area expect to see the malachite sunbirs feeding on the lobelia flowers. Then join  steep sections before a steady climb up and over a ridge to Hunwick’s Camp which is situated on the top of a deep valley that has  views of Mt Stanley, Mt Baker, Weismann’s Peak and McConnell’s Prong.  Overnight at Hunwick camp. Taking 8.3km

Day 5. Hunwick camp To hike mount Baker 4,843 meters and back Hunwick camp.

Early in the morning, we set off to climb mount Baker 4,843 meters that takes 4 to 6 hours . we climb gently through the fresh field and start a climb to the rocks. After climbing up you descend along a crack in the rock face to the glacier and a short 300 metre walk to the peak.

On a clear day after reaching the peak, there are clear views of margherita peak, Alexandria peak and the stanely plateau before you start a descending back to the camp. Taking 8.4 km

Day 6. Hunwicks camp To Margherita camp 4,485 meters.

in the morning, pass by the kitandara lakes and ascend to pass at the scott Elliot pass through the rocks and reach margherita camp where you start your margherita peak summit. 5.1 km

Day 7. Margherita camp 4,485m To summit margherita peak 5,109m back To margherita camp.

At this point, your guides brief you the right time to start after an early breakfast, you ascend through the rocks leading to the stanely glacier and put on crampons and rope up to cross the glacier then join another section of rocks until you reach the ascend to the margherita glacier join ascend section for about 15 minutes and reach the peak . start a descending past irene lakes down to bujuku valley  and camp at the rock shelter to prepare for mount speke. Taking 13.1km

Day 8. Margherita camp To summit mount speke 4,890m and back to Hunwick camp

Start a morning climb up to mount speke 4,890 meters and return back descending to cross the bujuku valley and pass through omukendege resting point to scott Elliot pass and down to Hunwick camp. Taking 16.1km

Day 9. Hunwicks camp To summit Weismann’s peak 4,620m on mount Luigi di Savoia and down to Kiharo camp 3,430 meters.

From Hunwicks Camp we start the day by climbing up a ridge towards McConnell’s Prong where you get the best views of all three peaks.The distance from Hunwick’s Camp to the top of Oliver’s Pass is 3km The trail then cuts across below Weismann’s Peak to the confluence of the Nyamwamba River where You can decide  to summit weismann’s peak for those that will still be strong enough coming down and continue to Kiharo camp at 3430 meters. Overnight at Kiharo Camp, set in a deep valley with high cliffs and dense vegetation.

Day 10. Kiharo camp and descend down to the basecamp

From  Kiharo Camp to the park gate  it takes 12.2km and another 2.8km down to the basecamp in kilembe taking 6 to 8 hours. The trail down the Nyamwamba Valley is mostly downhill and absolutely stunning with beautiful views, moss covered rocks along the river, waterfalls, deep valleys and forests are possibly the best in the Rwenzori Mountains.

Then continue to descend up to the basecamp and receive your certificates for conquering the Rwenzori mountains.
