1 day Rwenzori hike

The 1 day Rwenzori hike starts at the Rwenzori mountains National park Mihunga gate at the central circuit trail and for the kilembe trail, the hike starts at the UWA rangers post in kilembe.

The Rwenzori day hike through the central circuit trail, after registering at the park gate and briefing by your guide, you start your hike at mihunga gate at 1,651 metres above sea level.

A day hike itinerary.

The hike will take you to the montane forest, leaving the mahoma trail on the left side and continue to reach the thick forest to cross kyoho river and join a steep climb on ladders and proceed to cross the mahoma river bridge .

After crossing the mahoma river, you will join a relative walk to the mahoma resting point for your parked lunch and a sip of water.

Along the trail you will spot the three horned chameleon and the Rhinocerous chameleon.

The 1 day Rwenzori mountain hike will give you an opportunity to spot some of the Rwenzori mountain mammal species like the blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, forest elephants, Rock hyrax and the beautiful coloured Rwenzori turaco bird.

Along the trail you may hear calls of the chimpanzees or on a lucky day you may spot them crossing from the mubuku valley to the kyoho river valley. The chimpanzees in the rwenzori prefer taking their habitat near the valleys.

The trail proceeds to Nyabithaba hut for a short rest before joining the route to lake mahoma at 3,000 metres above sea level. You start a climb up past the kurt shifar bridge junction and the Guyeoman junction.

On the way to lake mahoma, you will pass through the bamboo forest and reach mahoma lake, after enjoying the views start your descend down back to the gate.

Lake mahoma at 3,000 metres is the deepest lake in the Rwenzori mountains at about 27 metres deep.

The 1 day rwenzori hike to Rwenzori takes 5-6 hours ascending and 2-3 hours descending down depending on the pace used to hike.

Along the trail you will visit the Enock falls that are located about 200 meters from the sine camp.

Reaching sine camp located at 2,596 meters, you will views of the lush green forest and the natural breathing air from the forests.

The rwenzori mountains is well known for its unique flora which includes many species endemic to the Albertine rift in the higher altitude zones including the giant heathers, groundsels and lobelias.
