Mount baker is located at 2.8 kilometres from the Ugandan border with Democratic Republic of congo.

Mount Baker alongside the neighbouring Mount Speke and mount stanley, forms a triangle enclosing the upper Bujuku valley.

Mount Baker also known as Kiyanja is a local name from the Bakonzo people that live around the mountains

Mount Baker contain other peaks, including Edward (4,844 m), Semper (4,794 m), Moore (4,623 m) and Wollaston (4,626 m)

Weismann’s peak is one of the highest peaks in the Rwenzori mountains ranges. This peak is at an elevation of 4620 m above sea level located on mount luigi di savoia. it can be easily accessed through the central circuit trail though the peak can be accessed through other trails like the bukurungu wilderness camping trail and the kilembe trail.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1. Mihunga gate 1,651m to Nyabithaba camp 2,651m

Day 2. Nyabithaba camp 2,651m to guyeoman camp 3,505m

Day 3. Guyeoman camp 3,505m to kitandara camp 4023m

Day 4. Kitandara camp 4023m to weismann peak 4,620m and Back to kitandara camp.

Day 5. Kitandara camp 4023m to mount Baker 4844m and back to Guyeoman camp.

Day 6. Guyeoman camp 4023m to mihunga gate 1651m.

Detailed itinerary of the 7 days Mount Baker and Weismann peak.

Day 1: Mihunga gate 1,651m to Nyabithaba camp 2,651m

The driver guide will drive you to mihunga gate for the briefing, organising your equipment and meeting the guides, chef and porters.

The trail begins passing through the montane forest along the mubuku valley.

Cross the kyoho and mahoma river before starting a climb up on the ridge and reach nyabithaba hut.

During this trek, animals such as the white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, chimpanzees, three horned chameleon and the Rwenzori turaco birds may be spotted.

Hike duration: 10km takes 5-6 hours.

Day 2: Nyabithaba camp 2,651m to Guyeoman camp 3,505m

After breakfast early in the morning, from nyabithaba camp the trail takes you to the junction that connects you to mahoma lake route on the left then turn right for guyeoman route taking you through the bamboo zone up to kichuchu bridge . After crossing the bridge it’s a gentle walk passing on board walks up to kichuchu rock shelter for a packed lunch. After lunch and some short rest, the trail ascends steeply up to guyeoman camp 3505m. Its 5km and takes 6-7 hours. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Guyeoman camp to Kitandara Lakes camp 4,023m

From guyeoman camp the trail takes you through the boggy areas , crossing river mubuku and a view of Kabamba water falls before starting a climb up through the heather trees forest up to bujongolo rock shelter for lunch. After lunch it’s a gentle steep climb up to the fresh field pass a nice view for margherita glaciers and weismann peak, then descend down to kitandara lakes camp for Dinner and an overnight. Its 7 km and Takes 7-8 hours.

Day 4: Kitandara lakes to Weismann peak 4,620m

Wake up early in the morning for a walk through the tussocks seeing animals like the Red mountain duikers and the Rock hyraxes from the rocks to weismann peak. After reaching the top of weismann peak 4620 m then descend down slowly to kitandara lakes for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Kitandara lakes to climb mount Baker 4844m

Early in the morning after breakfast, start the journey to climb mount baker, ascend through the fresh field pass and crossing on the rocks then reach mount baker peak at 4844m, after the views descend down to guyeoman camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Guyeoman camp to Mihunga gate.

In the morning , slope down to nyabithaba camp for lunch and continue down to mihunga gate for pick up by the driver guide. Taking 8 hours.

This will be the last day of your 7 days mount baker and weismann peak.
